Regie Stites

Alum 2023

Regie was born and raised in a racially-segregated small town in rural Illinois, a place he longed to escape. Regie has postgraduate degrees in cultural anthropology, English, and education and was employed for three decades as a social science researcher at UCLA, Penn, and SRI International. His educational research and publications focus on literacy, equity and empowerment of linguistic and racial minority learners in the U.S. and elsewhere. Regie gained a unique perspective on American culture by spending several years living and working in China. While at Mesa Refuge, he worked on a critical family history of racism and its legacy across four centuries of American history.
