Human Rights Cohort 2021

Cortelyou is an Academic Fellow at Cornell Law School, where she dedicates her research and writing to constitutional law and institutional design. She is also an Affiliated Fellow at Yale Law School and previously taught at Stanford Law School. Cortelyou’s research focuses on how structural aspects of our legal system help promote and foster cooperation, or inhibit cooperation, and how to structure institutions at a micro- and macro- level to promote justice. At the Mesa Refuge, she will write a law review article about the history of defamation law, which was originally used to silence critics of white supremacy in the South during the civil rights movement.
