Michael Pollan Journalism Fellowship

The Michael Pollan Journalism Fellowship supports emerging journalists in print and other media who offer thoughtful coverage of connections between humans and nature. Over the years, the Pollan Fellowships have been supported by many generous donors. Between 2017 and 2022, Pollan fellows were supported by the Panta Rhea Foundation. Previous fellows were funded by Michael Pollan and Judith Belzer.

Michael Pollan is perhaps the best-known alum of the Mesa Refuge. As a resident, he worked on Food Rules and The Omnivore’s Dilemma. His work has taught a whole generation of Americans about our relationship to food and the natural world.

Michael is a contributing writer for the New York Times magazine, a former editor for Harper’s, and author of numerous books: This Is Your Mind on Plants (2021), How to Change Your Mind (2018), Cooked (2013), Food Rules (2009), In Defense of Food (2008), The Omnivore’s Dilemma (2006), The Botany of Desire (2001), A Place of My Own (1997) and Second Nature (1991).

He teaches journalism in the English department at Harvard University and at UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism.
