Alice is a writer from the Ozark Mountains in Arkansas. She is the author of More or Less Dead and translator of Abecedario de Juarez. Her nonfiction book on the letters of Maurice Sendak will be published in 2023. Alice writes for The New York Review of Books, National Geographic, and The New Yorker. She holds a PhD in Hispanic Studies from the University of Kentucky, and she completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México in Mexico City. At Mesa Refuge, she will be writing Absence is a Silent Pain, a nonfiction book that tells the story of one pandemic year in the life and COVID-19 death of poultry processing workers at America’s largest meat and poultry processing company, Tyson Foods.
