Make a Donation

Since 1997, the Mesa Refuge has offered the gifts of time and space to more than 1,000 writers and other creative people to bring forth the books, films, podcasts and stories that advance the conversation on the most critical questions of our time—and that are changing the world. Thanks to a broad base of support, including friends and alums like you, no resident ever pays for a stay at the Mesa Refuge. Consider joining one or more of our circles that support change-making writers and other creatives in their important work.

Annual Giving

We profoundly appreciate an annual gift of any amount. We marvel each day at the generosity of our alums and the culture of support and spirit of generosity that they are helping us to build at Mesa Refuge.

  • Continuing gifts, made monthly, are even more helpful. Make your recurring or one-time gift online by clicking our donate button.

  • Gifts of stock or highly appreciated assets. One of the most advantageous ways to contribute to Mesa Refuge is via a gift of stock or other securities, such as bonds or mutual funds.

Fellowships

With a gift of $22,500 or more, you can fund a three-year fellowship in honor of a person, a particular subject area or genre. See our current fellows and fellowships here.

Legacy Circle

By naming the Mesa Refuge in your will or estate plan, or arranging an IRA Charitable Rollover, you join our Legacy Circle. These gifts reach far into the future, helping to ensure that the Mesa Refuge will continue to support creative change-makers in their important work. The first step is to sign a Letter of Intent (PDF) to let us know of your plans.

  • Bequests
    Naming Mesa Refuge in your will or estate plan will leave lasting funds to allow the Mesa Refuge to support writers and other creatives in doing what they do best. Legacy gifts can be large or small: each gift means a great deal to us as we establish a community of donors who will carry the Mesa Refuge into the future.
  • Beneficiary Designations
    You can also name Mesa Refuge as a beneficiary on your life insurance policy, retirement account, brokerage account, bank account or pension. Please list Mesa Refuge, PO Box 1389, Point Reyes Station, CA, 94956 and our tax ID number (46-2740651) on your beneficiary designation forms.
  • IRAs
    For individuals age 70 ½ or older, the IRA Charitable Rollover is a tax-wise way to support Mesa Refuge.
