Jassmin Poyaoan is a graduate of UC Berkeley and UCLA School of Law and is currently a California-based civil rights specializing in transactional law and public policy. Examples of her work include negotiating and drafting a community benefits agreement on a large-scale development project to secure affordable office and theater space for BIPOC-led nonprofits and artists, as well as the formation of a worker-led entity that creates employment opportunities for BIPOC and refugee chefs in Oakland. Seeing the parallels between her clients’ struggles for economic justice and the struggles of her own family, Jassmin worked on her semi-fictional memoir highlighting the themes of love, grief, heartbreak, justice and migration across multiple generations in her family.
