Aileen Suzara’s work as an educator, cook, and writer weaves across food and ecology. Her essays and recipes appear in Closer to Liberation: Pin[a/x]y Activism in Theory and Practice, Earth Island Journal, Growing Up Filipino II, Hella Pinay, The Colors of Nature: Culture, Identity, and the Natural World, and Brill’s volume of Tikim: Essays on Philippine Food and Culture. Currently, Aileen catalyzes resources towards movements for food and land justice. She is an alumna of UC Berkeley’s School of Public Health, CASFS Farm and Garden apprenticeship, and Castanea Fellowship. Aileen’s writing is influenced by intergenerational activism with the Filipino/American Coalition for Environmental Solidarity and Sama Sama Cooperative. At Mesa, she worked on her young adult novel that draws on themes of land and water protectors, mermaid folklore, and climate resilience.
