Achy Obejas is a Havana-born author and translator. She authored Boomerang/Bumerán, a unique bilingual collection of poetry written in a mostly gender-free English and Spanish that addresses immigration, displacement, love, and activism. She also authored The Tower of the Antilles, Ruins, and Days of Awe, and her poetry chapbook, This is What Happened in Our Other Life. Achy is a recipient of a USA Artists fellowship, an NEA and a Cintas fellowship. At Mesa Refuge, Achy worked on a collection of poems in Spanish and English reflecting on family and gender identity.
