Sarah Shourd
Alum 2014Sarah is an author, prisoner rights advocate, University of California, Berkeley, Visiting Scholar and Contributing Editor at Solitary Watch. She co-authored a memoir, A Sliver of Light: Three Americans Imprisoned in Iran, about the year she was held as a political hostage by the Iranian government (published by Houghton-Mifflin Harcourt 2014). Shourd is a regular contributor to Newsweek’s Daily Beast, and has written for a host of other publications such as the New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle and the Huffington Post. She has lived and worked all over the globe—from autonomous Zapatista communities in Chiapas, Mexico, to Palestinian Refugee camps in Syria—and now resides with her husband and two cats in Oakland, California.
