Sarah Gage
Alum 2004Sarah Gage is a writer, writing instructor and botanist whose creative nonfiction and scientific articles have appeared in Seattle Weekly, Douglasia, Northwest Science, the American Journal of Botany and many other publications. Sarah served as the chief US Botanist for the International Kuril Island Project, which surveyed the biodiversity of the Kuril Islands, stretching from Japan’s northernmost island to the southern tip of Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula. She has curated Botanical Rambles for the Washington Native Plant Society since the blog began in 2012.
Her botanical work includes managing the University of Washington Herbarium for thirteen years and co-authoring A Centenary Survey of Plant Life in Washington State. From 2005 to 2019 she worked on biodiversity conservation and salmon recovery at the Recreation and Conservation Office in Olympia. Now retired, Sarah lives and gardens in Seattle.
