Roohi Choundhry
Alum 2003Roohi Choundhry is a a writer, researcher and self-described lifelong nomad. Born in Pakistan, she grew up moving around southern Africa and the Middle East, and is currently settled in New York City. She has received a New York Foundation for the Arts fellowship in fiction, a Pushcart Prize nomination, and one of her essays and two of her short stories were listed as Notable by the Best American series in 2016. She graduated with an MFA in fiction from the University of Michigan, where she taught composition and creative writing to undergraduates.
She also has degrees in marketing research and economics, and worked for a decade in social science data analysis and research for non-profit organizations. She has served on the boards of the South Asian Women’s Creative Collective and DesiLit, and worked as a contributing editor at Fiction Writers Review and Storyscape Journal. She currently teaches and coaches other writers, and consults for the United Nations. Her writings have been published in Ploughshares, The Kenyon Review, Longreads, The Rumpus, and Bitch Magazine. She is also managing editor at Laundry, a literary magazine about fashion.
