Maya is a journalist and author of Doing Harm: The Truth About How Bad Medicine and Lazy Science Leave Women Dismissed, Misdiagnosed, and Sick. Formerly the editorial director of the feminist blog Feministing.com, Maya has been a columnist for Pacific Standard and a fellow at Mother Jones. While at the Mesa Refuge, she worked on her book which explores how American-style capitalism undermines our ability to meet our basic human needs—for clean air, fresh water, nutritious food, adequate sleep, regular movement and a sense of community—and how our health suffers as a consequence.
