Mary Dickson

Mary Dickson has been Director of Creative Services since 1988 at KUED-Channel 7 in Salt Lake City, where she oversees the station’s public relations, publicity, advertising, on-air promotion, graphic services, community outreach, and web site activities in addition to publishing Seven, the station’s program guide. Under her leadership the station has won a variety of local and national promotion awards, including Emmy and New York Film Festival Awards as well as those from PBS and from the Utah Broadcasters Association.

Dickson is the writer and co-producer of the PBS documentary film, No Safe Place: Violence Against Women, which airs nationally on PBS in March 1998. The program has received a variety of awards including an Emmy nomination and a Gold Award from the Houston WorldFest International Film Festival.

In addition to her full-time position with the public television station, she is an award-winning Salt Lake City writer whose wide-ranging articles and commentary appear regularly in a variety of publications. She is a frequent commentator on public radio station KUER-FM 90. She has received writing awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Associated Press, and is the recipient of an Award of Excellence from the Utah Governor’s Commission on Women and Families. She recently was named the Quintus Wilson Distinguished Alumnus by the University of Utah. Her commentary, “A Woman’s Worst Fear,” recently received the Vivian Castleberry Award from the National Association of Women Journalists.

For the past eight years she has been the film critic of the Salt Lake Weekly and also reviews films on the KSL-Radio Movie Show. In addition to cinema reviews, Dickson writes about up-and-coming American actors for foreign editions of Marie Claire magazine.

A founding member of Utah’s Women in Journalism Association, she is a member of the Utah Women’s Forum and serves on the Board of Directors of the Utah Film and Video Center and on the Board of Trustees of the Salt Lake Acting Company.
