Gary Smith

Gary Smith is a professional educator who has spent the last eight years managing environmental education projects for the California Department of Education. A high school biology teacher for 24 years, Gary worked to complete a book that promotes the use of systems thinking in education. He hopes “to convey a type of holistic thinking that provides both a grounding metaphor for students to more accurately perceive and understand their world and additional tools for students to carry with them as they leave school.” He authored a chapter entitled “Systems Thinking and Urban Ecosystem Education” published in 2000 in the book Understanding Urban Ecosystems: A New Frontier for Science and Education.
