Bhavna Shamasunder

Bhavna is an environmental justice teacher and scholar. She is an associate professor in Urban and Environmental Policy and Public Health at Occidental College. Bhavna is also co-editor of the MIT Press Urban & Industrial Environments Series and a board member of the Science and Environmental Health Network. She works with communities who live near industrial production to conduct policy research and make it accessible. At Mesa Refuge, Bhavna will write an environmental roadmap for decommissioning and cleaning-up well closures, focusing on the steps communities, decision-makers and governments can take in advance for more equitable outcomes. Bhavna is the Howard and Phyllis Friedman Fellow for Inclusive Economy.
