Achy Obejas

Achy is a Havana-born author and translator. She authored Boomerang/Bumerán, a unique bilingual collection of poetry written in a mostly gender-free English and Spanish that addresses immigration, displacement, love and activism. She also authored The Tower of the Antilles, Ruins and Days of Awe and her poetry chapbook, This is What Happened in Our Other Life. Achy is a recipient of a USA Artists fellowship, an NEA and a Cintas fellowship. At Mesa Refuge, Achy worked on a collection of poems in Spanish and English reflecting on family and gender identity. Achy is the May and Jack Elinson Public Health Fellow.
