Announcing the New Mesa Neighborhood Fellowship

One of the most heartening things to happen during the time of coronavirus lockdown during the spring of 2020 was the formation of a new fellowship, funded by a group of close neighbors. When locals speak of “the Mesa” they may be referring to the flat hilltop neighborhood or the Mesa Refuge, which was named for this place. As neighbors have joined us for meals and readings, some of them have become enthusiastic supporters of the work our residents create. This spring, Sarah Cane and Alison Wright, who were on the fundraising committee, rallied support with others—including Doris Ober, Burr Heneman and Lexi Rome, Myn Adess, and Pamela Wright—to present us with our newest fellowship.

Known informally as the “Mesa Mesa,” the fellowship will support the work of an outstanding writer, working in the Mesa Refuge’s three areas of focus: social equity, the environment and the economy.

As Sarah Cane said, “Always, but especially now, we need what comes of committed people taking the time to be still and silent, allowing ideas and wisdom to take shape. The Mesa Refuge brings extraordinary people to our neighborhood, people whose thoughtful voices we most need to hear.
