Introducing Alum Weeks!

Alums are invited to stay at the Mesa Refuge for one-week residencies designed specifically for you to work on projects and writing, following your own schedule and pace. During Alum Weeks, three alums will share the house for 6-7 nights—for a short stay that will, nonetheless, be wildly productive. The same perimeters apply as with our spring and fall residencies: we ask that you come with a project you’re working on and respect the time, space and quiet atmosphere that is essential for creative work.

Mesa Refuge staff will organize the groups on a first-come, first-served basis. There is a residency fee, a sliding scale of $950 to $1,500 per person for the week. The fee helps us maintain the property, stock the pantry, and supports our sustainability.

We recently piloted this program. Participants commented that—since they already know the house, writing sheds and property—it was much easier and quicker to drop into the creative process. Two books were completed, poems polished and essays were written during our first Alum Weeks in September!
