After a person dies, their assets are distributed and, most of the time, liquidated. What remains are memories, sometimes bolstered with photographs, papers, or personal effects. While a legal will distributes your assets, an ethical will names the experience and wisdom that you have gleaned over a lifetime. In this workshop, learn the basics of writing a “Life Letter” (the most common form of an ethical will), looking at life lessons you learned along the way, and drafting a letter which expresses your heartfelt values and beliefs. All ages are welcome and no prior writing experience is necessary. Participants should bring writing materials. All are welcome to remain on the Commonweal grounds after the workshop to walk and meditate on your own.

This workshop is offered free, thanks to Wills for West Marin, Commonweal, and the generosity of Susan Tillett and Kim Klein. Image: Debby Hudson, Unsplash.
