Being Brave Poetry Workshop with Elizabeth C. Herron
Past Event
June 7,2024
Join Mesa alum and Sonoma County Poet Laureate Elizabeth C. Herron for the Being Brave Poetry Workshop at the Mesa Refuge. The workshop will consist of writing, sharing in community and exploring Mesa’s summer garden.
Elizabeth offers participants a chance to journey into the imagination, provoking the discovery of personal images and sparking creative expression. With the support of simple suggestions for connecting with the heart as well as brief writing prompts, participants are invited to discover their deeper, often hidden, feelings of hesitation and fear and transform those feelings through poetic language. This process is mysteriously empowering.
It takes courage to meet our own suffering, and courage is centered in the heart. To look at what is held in there begins a process of change. To share what is held there makes us vulnerable. But when we are brave enough not only to look and to creatively share what we find, it becomes a form of spiritual practice that nurtures compassion and brings us into greater community.
