Virginia Kerns is Professor Emerita of Anthropology at the College of William & Mary, and an award-winning writer and teacher. Her books include Scenes from the High Desert: Julian Steward’s Life and Theory, which won the Walter P. Clements Prize for Best Nonfiction Book on Southwestern America, and other awards. Her last book, Sally in Three Worlds: An Indian Captive in the House of Brigham Young, won the WILLA Literary Award for Scholarly Nonfiction, and several other book prizes.
