Lizbeth Abeln is an immigrant rights leader and proud immigrant from Chiapas, Mexico. She was selected for the 2025–2027 Leading Edge Fellowship, which supports emerging movement leaders with bold ideas. As a founder of the Shut Down Adelanto Coalition, Lizbeth leads efforts to close the Adelanto Detention Center and help the city transition from reliance on detention facilities toward greater economic and political self-determination by using the Just Transition framework. Accredited by the U.S. Department of Justice as a legal representative, she provides critical support to families seeking immigration legal services. Lizbeth is also the proud mother of two children and enjoys spending time with her family. At Mesa, she worked on a workbook for a Just Transition framework on immigrant prisons.
