Alum 2020, Fellow 2020, Mesa Refuge Change Maker
2021 Change Maker, Judith Tannenbaum Teaching Artist Fellow (2020)
Tiffany Golden is a children’s author and teaching artist, specializing in creative writing to amplify the voices of 3rd-8th grade youth. About her fellowship and residency, she says:
“It is quite easy as a teacher and caretaker to become exhausted. When I was offered the Judith Tannenbaum Teaching Artist Fellowship through Chapter 510 and the Mesa Refuge, I was in dire need of alone time to recharge. During my two weeks of respite, I was able to breathe in clean air, see the sparkling stars at night, write on the deck of my room, and enjoy the company of a wonderful cohort member that I truly hope to stay connected with.
I enjoyed so much about my stay at Mesa Refuge. I am very grateful to be another writer doing their soul’s work who has had the gift of rest, solitude, and given space to create.”

As a Teaching Artist at Chapter 510 in Oakland, Tiffany has been honing her storytelling skills since her teens. Originally a film major at the Academy of Art University, Tiffany blended her love for story with a visual medium. Her evolution into community education allowed her to introduce another element into this union—helping others tell their stories. Tiffany is the author of the Midnight Story Series, a children’s fantasy series and recently earned a MFA from Spalding University. At the Mesa Refuge, she worked on her middle-grade novel, Secret Diva.
