Julie Livingston is a professor of Social and Cultural Analysis and History at New York University where she teaches and writes about southern Africa, public health, and relationships between species. She received her PhD from Emory University. Her most recent book is Improvising Medicine: An African Oncology Ward in an Emerging Cancer Epidemic. Julie is the recipient of numerous awards, including a MacArthur Foundation Fellow. While at the Mesa Refuge, she worked on a book-length essay about the ecological consequences of escalating consumption in southern Africa.
