We are hiring a part-time Program Coordinator in the Bay Area to provide support for our residency and DIY retreat programs, social media, events and fundraising.

Mesa Refuge is a three-bedroom writer’s retreat in Point Reyes Station, founded in 1997, that has provided time and space for more than 1,000 writers, audio journalists, filmmakers and other creatives focused on the environment, economic equity, and social justice.

The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, a self-starter and clear communicator. They can manage multiple projects autonomously and work collaboratively. Knowledge of various online platforms including Submittable, Salesforce, Constant Contact and Google docs/drive as well as social media (Facebook and Instagram) is preferred.

The Program Coordinator is responsible for:

Residency Program & DIY Retreats

  • Primary liaison for 45 residents per year and alumni network of 1,000.
    Coordinates residency selection process for spring/fall residencies including applications on Submittable, working closely with the selection committee, and notifying and scheduling residents.
    Orients and welcomes residents and is the primary point person during their stay. Organizes welcome dinners and final gatherings as well as biweekly KWMR radio interviews.
    Coordinates DIY Retreat schedule during the summer and holidays including communication with guests, payments and orientation.

Fundraising

  • Maintains Salesforce database, entering contributions, writing acknowledgements and updating donor lists.
  • Assists with fundraising campaigns including the preparation and mailing of spring and fall fundraising letters and online giving campaigns (i.e., Giving Tuesday).
  • Assists in researching and writing grant applications.

Social Media & Events

  • Regular updates on Mesa Refuge Facebook and Instagram sites.
  • Assists with all events including alumni picnic, author events/webinars, writing workshops, board meetings and fundraising events.

Mesa Refuge has a small staff consisting of one full-time Executive Director and six part-time consultants/contractors. The Program Coordinator reports to the Executive Director and also works collaboratively with the team. Some of the work is remote and at least one day a week is on-site in Point Reyes Station. Compensation: $35-40/hour, depending on experience
