Betsy Hartmann

Writer, educator and women’s rights activist Betsy Hartmann is the author of The America Syndrome: Apocalypse, War and Our Call to Greatness, and Reproductive Rights and Wrongs. Her two political thrillers explore the threat the Far Right poses to American democracy. Betsy is professor emerita of Development Studies at Hampshire College. She was educated at Yale University and the London School of Economics, and was awarded the 2015 Fulbright-Nehru Distinguished Chair in India. While at the Mesa Refuge, Betsy worked on The America Syndrome and her novel, Last Place Called Home, which explores the opioid crisis and war on drugs in a declining northeastern mill town.
